All students participate in three school-wide programs each year.
The Christmas Program is performed in December before Christmas break. The teachers, along with parent volunteers, work with the students to memorize songs to sing as a class. Simple costumes and props are made, some reused from previous years’ performance. The “theme” of the program always relates to the true and spiritual meaning of Christmas, the birth of Jesus Christ. The major acting roles are given to the eighth graders, while the rest of the grades provide all the chorus of music. To add to the ambiance of the evening, the program is performed in the St. Cecilia Church.
During the Lenten season, St. Cecilia Parish offers a family fish bake on Friday evenings, following by the Stations of the Cross. On one selected Friday, the students from St. Cecilia School provide a “live” performance of the stations. The different classes act out each station and read aloud what the station represents.
The final school-wide performance of the year is the Spring Show, usually held in May. This is a night of fun and entertainment for everyone. It starts with a professional stage, backdrop, lighting and sound that is donated and set up outside in the St. Cecilia parking lot. Add to that a band who plays all the music live for the performance. Each class has to learn and perform a medley of songs. The announcers and transition pieces are performed by the eighth graders. In addition, individual/group acts are added in between the class performances. The acts are chosen through a try-out and must follow the theme of the show. It is an unbelievable event to showcase our student’s talent.
Various assemblies are held throughout the year. Student of the Month recognizes students for academic and personal achievements. St. Cecilia School engages students in the diverse world of performing arts and three assemblies are scheduled a year. Past performing arts assemblies have included the Anaheim Ballet, Opera Pacific, and Shakespearean Actors Troupe. In addition, Mad Science assemblies are held for various grades to enhance science curriculum and learning.
St Cecilia students can express their love for music by participating in the music program. They learn how to play different instruments and play in ensemble. Once a year they have a performance.
