All students are exposed to a variety of fine arts performances and assemblies throughout the year, and actively participate in three annual on-site performances.
Assemblies are held each month to recognize scholastic, athletic and personal achievements within each level of the student body. In addition, three diverse performing arts assemblies are held to accentuate the schools fine arts programs. The Anaheim Ballet, Opera Pacific and the Shakespearean Actors troupe highlight a long list of past guest performers. The ‘mad science’ assemblies enhance the science curriculum as well.
The Christmas program is all inclusive and is performed in St. Cecilia Church, adjacent to the school. Students learn unique Christmas songs in music class, which are woven throughout the traditional story of the birth of Christ. The school’s vocal and hand-bell choirs also participate in this evening of song and spiritual celebration.
During the Lenten season St. Cecilia parish offers a Family Fish bake on Friday evenings, followed by the Stations of the Cross. On a chosen weekend a live presentation of the stations is provided by the students, during which different grade levels represent selected stations. Students provided readings and an interpretive portrayal of each of the stations.
The final school-wide performance is the annual Spring Show, held each May. This is a night of fun and entertainment for the entire family. A professional stage, backdrop, lights and a live band set the mood in the vast St. Cecilia parking lot. Family members sit under the stars and enjoy a personalized play and hand-selected songs (with a different theme each year), starring the 8th grade students as lead cast members. Each grade presents 2 musical performances, mastered in music class, and select individual student acts enhance the show and reinforce the theme.
St. Cecilia is proud to announce that its vocal choir will travel to Rome in 2010 to sing at the Papal Mass, held at St. Peter’s Basilica on January 1, 2011. The choir, still in its formative stage, was created in 2008 and currently has 44 members (in grades 4-8), 26 of whom will travel with their families to visit both the Vatican and nearby St. Cecilia in Travestere. The students will perform at several concerts while in Rome, and visit many of the important monuments of this ancient city.
